The best way to improve is what I call the natural way – the way you learned your native language.
First you learned to listen, to your parents.
Then you learned to speak.
Then you learned to read.
Then, finally, you learned to write.
So good listening is the basis of everything else.
Spend time listening to English songs, listening to BBC World service on the radio, and taking every possible opportunity to be within earshot of anyone speaking English.
Then you must practice speaking.
Forget the writing. That will improve automatically as your speaking improves.
Spend quiet moments reading English. It’s all over the Internet.
Pick a subject you are interested in and read every English web page you can find on that subject.
So, to summarise.
Listen whenever you can.
If you cannot listen, then speak, even if it’s only to yourself. In fact speaking to a tape recorder can be an enormous help.
Make sure that you spend a good deal of time reading every week.
And finally, write.
Keep a diary in English, so that you write just a little something every day. This then serves as a guide to check back on to see how you are improving, which provides encouragement.
Listening skills suggest mixing with as many English speaking people as possible.
Writing skills, this site is pretty good for practice.
Reading good books is a good way of improving your writing. Listening.. try watching some old English movies.
Contact the British Council in your country. (You can get the address, telephone number and probably email address for the British Council from the British Embassy.)
The British Council sponsor and some cases conduct English as a foreign language classes. If they don’t do the classes themselves, they will know who does.
You can start with listening to english songs (pop is alright, lol) Do refer to the lyrics if you can’t catch what they’re singing
And yeah, your writing will improve as you keep practicing. this site is pretty good, i think. Keep reading (magazines, websites, newspaper, books, etc) to broaden your vocabulary! I guess having an English-speaking penpal does help too.
It isn’t very difficult to learn English, just keep practising! Good luck, Stefan_Ivanov!!
read what ever you find interesting,,ie books, articles, novels, newspapers,,,,speak to others, yourself,,,write your thoughts,,or anything interesting,,,if u find a new word or sentence just note it down or memorise n use in ur thought then it’ll be in ur conscious,,n u’ll b start using it quite often,,
Listening:Go to different listening sites like ((a4esl.org)).Find friends who can speak english and talk to them. watch english movies or cartoons(with accent that you are familiar with), listen to the tapes which have books and read the part you did’nt understand from the book (after listening to it several times)
Writing:Write short stories of your own . for writing you have to improve your grammar and vocab.
