Is it true that immigrants who are slow to learn English will be left behind both economically and socially?

Is it true that the most successful immigrants are those that learn English and speak it regularly, and that those who do not will continue to live in their small isolated communities cut-off from the rest of society? Should immigrants in the U.S. be forced to learn English or should we continue to "baby" them by translating everything from drivers license tests to government notices into their native language, so that they never learn English? Should we continue to "baby" the poor little Mexican’s who come here naked and broke, and translate everything into Spanish for them, and give them medical services, food, shelter and police protection?

I read something in the news about the U.K. having the same problem about immigrants over there not learning english because they were translating everything and that stopped the immigrants from being encouraged to learn english over there. So what they did was routed the money they were spending on translation to providing programs for them to learn english. It sucks that they get another government funded teet to suck off of but it’s better than everything written in every friggin language. The main thing we need to realize that America is weakened when citizens cannot communicate with each other.

Pretty much, English is the language of commerce after all. If you want to work in businesses that pay decent amounts of money then your going to have to speak the language of the land.
This is our country after all and majority of us speak English so I really don’t see why we should change for them when they are coming to OUR country not the other way around. If I went to Mexico I wouldn’t expect them to all learn English for me.

You might want to brush up on your American history. Every single ethnic group that came to this country in the 17th century, 18th century, 19th century, 20th century and now in the 21st century ALL lived in "their small isolated communities". You are giving yourself far too much credit when you claim to be "babying" today’s immigrants. They don’t need you and never will.

Live with it. We’re a nation of immigrants. With the exception of Native Americans, every American can trace their roots to another country. (and even Native Americans can trace their roots to another place, too). Some of those ancestors became successful with English, some without. Some learned English well and became successful, some did not. Some never learned English, and lived a happy an fruitful life.

Yes. English is the one thing all Americans, and all immigrants who come here to be a part of America, have in common. It unites us. And it makes the life of an immigrant much easier and it give immigrants more of an opportunity to be successful: the sooner they learn it, the better off they will be.

Of course the left doesn’t want to admit this, because they need to keep immigrants under their thumb. Democrats can’t "control" and keep poor immigrants down, if they learn English and use it to their advantage by starting to figure out the real opportunities this country offers for their prosperity.

Democrats basically tell immigrants (and other poor groups) "don’t worry, we’ll take care of you, you don’t have what it takes to be successful, and you’ll be discriminated against anyway, so why bother making an effort to succeed?"

Whereas the immigrants that come here, and work hard, and learn English and become productive members of our society are already better-off than the minority groups that have been depending on Democrats’ social programs for decades!

If they want to be successful they will have to learn English!!!

What kind of Moron thinks Native Americans are not immigrants too, geez, history knowledge is lacking with "some" people here. Native Americans are just as much immigrants as anyone.
You can be very successful without knowing English, but not in the U.S., being highly successful in the U.S. and learning English go hand in hand. After all, if you tool lazy, too rude or too stuck up to learn the de facto nation language of our nation, then your probably too lame to be a success.
